How the binary translator works
Paste binary into the box and the translator splits it into 8-bit bytes, converts each byte to its character code, and prints the decoded text as you type. Going the other way, type plain text and each character becomes its 8-bit binary form. No submit button, no waiting, no upload.
The converter accepts messy input gracefully. Spaces between bytes are optional, stray line breaks get ignored, and if something genuinely can’t be decoded you’ll see exactly where it broke instead of a blank box. Both directions handle full UTF-8, so accented letters, non-Latin scripts, and emoji all round-trip correctly rather than turning into question marks.
Everything happens in your browser with JavaScript. Your text never touches a server, which means the tool works offline once loaded and your messages stay yours. There’s nothing to sign up for and nothing is logged, because there’s nowhere for it to go.
How binary represents text
Every character has a standard code number, and binary text is just those numbers written in base 2, eight digits at a time.
Take the word “Hello” with a capital H:

Five characters, five bytes. The first byte is the number 72, which the ASCII standard assigns to capital H. The second is 101, lowercase e. Decode each byte and the word reassembles itself. What’s the difference between ASCII and UTF-8?
ASCII is a 1963 standard covering 128 characters: English letters, digits, and punctuation, one byte each. UTF-8, designed in 1992, encodes all of Unicode, nearly 160,000 characters, using one to four bytes. For plain English text the two produce identical bytes, which is why they’re often confused.
Why is binary all 0s and 1s?
Computer circuits are switches that are either on or off, and two states means two symbols. Binary is the base-2 number system built on that constraint: each digit position doubles in value, and any number or character code can be written with just the two digits.
